Recently, after a gig,
I walked a few blocks over to the Apple Store on 5th Avenue,
corner of 59th St. in Manhattan...
As you can see, one can't
miss it, it's like The Retail Kotel of
All Things Mac... And you can see how I feel about Kotel -- I got
a photo I took of it as the Background Image throughout this website...
So there I was, "Round
About" 1
AM on Sunday, and the place was packed with folks from everywhere,
but what caught my attention right away was a bunch of Jews with
yarmulkes, some of whom looked like they could have been from Chabad.
Floating around this store, next to Chinese and other tourists,
they looked even more distinct...
OK, you are right, I did
copy the above pictures (click on them) form my ''other page",
where I describe my Shwekey Recording
Session. Look, this webpage
is not meant as some Apple Propaganda, product placement stuff
-- this is MY LIFE, and I definitely have a few things to
say about these 3 Keywords:
Baseball - Apple - Jews!
I could write a book about
this photo alone, but then who's gonna practice my sax for me?!
And, ironically, 2 days later I went to the Old
Yankee Stadium for the 1st Time!!!! Which reminde me of this...
a
real sport, Joe
Torre didn't mind doing this in the bathroom(!!!),
at the Rainbow Room, during a gig I did -- Garth
Brooks TV Christmas Special on
NBC "!!!
So, what does JEWJAZZ
have to do with Baseball, Apple and the Jews?
My answer: I see
ART in all of it, but then again, that's how I view life
in general!
Besides
the obvious word-play, Apple Juice
- Apple Jews, here
are some thoughts...
Someone can learn how
to swing a baseball a bat without even being Jewish
or a Mac-Apple admirer!
Someone can learn how
to "swing" on a Mac without even being a baseball or Torah
admirer!
Someone can learn how
to "swing" on Torah, memorizing Parshahs word
for word, and appear really smart, without even being Jewish or
a Mac-Apple admirer!
Or one can Swing On Torah
with his saxophone, poetry, multimedia?, like Arkady ...?!
The folks at Apple are
the best I know at combining the Technology and Art! Maybe subconsiously,
or not, I am burrowing from Steve
Job's, Apple CEO's musings? You
tell me, after you read
this interview!, where, specifically on this Page 3 of 6, this
paragraph
The
Question of Art. Vs. Technology connects to essence of
JEWJAZZ
- a concept born out of a personal
journey!
I've done a wide variety
of gigs in my life, but the Orthodox Jewish gigs are some of the
few times where I recall seeing long speeches, at a wedding, for
example. It could be a Rabbi or a relative speaking, and get pretty "heavy",
with references to Torah and other religious writings! The guests
often don't even pay attention, cause they've heard plenty of such
talks, and musicians are glad to be on a break, so that they
can hang out. But sometimes I chose to listent to those speeches,
and what I saw in many of them was a this common thread:
Lust for Learning!
Whether it's a musician
learning as much as possible about music, or kids of all ages learning
Torah and such, let's hope that such ''lust', hunger, thurst, and
whatever other synonyms, don't go away, but only get stronger in
everyone!
So, if you are still reading
this, you are probably asking: so what does it have to do with
baseball?
Baseball, like sports
in general, is a game for the kids of all ages! Music is that way
too! So, when I see an obviously Observant Jew with a Mac, to me,
Arkady, these thoughts come back!
Why? Cause, as we all
know, Jews are a minority in this world, as is Apple vs. Windows,
David
against Goliath, or you can choose your own metaphors, but
these days Mac
OS X can run Windows! So, The
Chicken or the Egg -- Who's
On First:) !?!?!
And don't they use that expression in baseball, where one
doesn't have to be Jewish or a Mac-Apple admirer!?
