This was a gig with my
band, The Arkady Arkestra, on Tuesday, March, 9, 1999 @ Vizhnitz
Hall, in Brooklyn, Earth!
The groom was a singer,
who wrote us a blank check to go nuts:)!, and we never stopped... ...
at least
since then... each for their own reasons... This
is who was on that gig:
JEWJAZZ
alto & soprano sax; conductor & pa;
video & photos
Mark Falchook
keyboard
Tony Montalbo
bass
Bill Nelson
guitar
Lee Finkelstein
drums
Gilad
percussion
Mike McGovern
trumpet
Tony Kadleck
trumpet
Terry Nigrelli
trombone
Since there is usually no dancing at the smorg-cocktail
hour part of Jewish, and or most weddings, it's hard for the musicians
to resist "stretching out".
I am not playing in this
video, but since I had this particular clip already processed,
ready for YouTube, I decided to upload it anyway. Hey, gotta
start somewhere, right? This JEWJAZZ YouTube Channel is
still a pretty new project for me, and it's not like I hire someone
to edit all the videos for me, and "market" me. I
do it all myself, whenever I have time.
I write articles like this one, to go with
hopefully each video, in order to better connect, and continue
a "conversation" with
those who care about stuff like this. Eventually, of course,
I'll have more videos with Arkady in them, but, sometimes it's
also nice to let others shine. I thought it was a great keyboard
solo, a nice showcase for Jazz improvisation, particularly for
those viewers who understand Jazz, and know this song. For fun,
try singing the melody during the keyboard solo, and hear how
it all fits, even though I've changed some chords, as is often
the case in Jazz.
The composition we are playing in this video
is an Israeli "standard", a song called Erev
Ba (Evening Comes). Music
by Arieh Levanon, lyrics by Oded
Avishar (according
to this site).
I don't know how deep I'll get into talking
about the music aspect of JEWJAZZ, technically speaking or more
in general terms, somewhere on this site, or in particular instances,
regarding particular videos, or audio samples. Why? Cause I
often wonder how many people even read the text on the websites,
mine included..., and instead just click on some photos, or and
videos, and move on to another site?! But hey, in an effort to
treat all visitors with outmoust respect, I am trying to provide
ample information, as compactly as a I know how, and the rest
is beyond my control....
A WARNING
FOR MATURE VIEWERS!!!
I think that the "colorful" subtitles in
this nudity-free video are worth their larger noble
intent!!!
For greater fun, leave
your mouse above the Pause Button, so that you can click
on it to stop and enjoy the subtitles!
Pressing Space Bar might
also work as Pause-Play, but not in a Full Screen Mode
The subtitles are easier
to read in a Full Screen Mode
To view these videos
in Full Screen Mode, click on the middle icon in the
lower right corner of the video box
I'd like to think that both musicians and
the "civilians" will
find this following video both entertaining, and educational:
And, the more
educated the civilians are, the better off all musicians
are, at least in theory, or so I hope...
But, to err on a safer side,
I decided to hide this video here, as opposed to adding it to
my Favorites on my JEWJAZZ
YouTube Channel... Maybe I'll add it on my "Other" YouTube
Channel? We'll see...
More info coming is coming
soon..., time permitting...?! But, if it's not soon enough, please
feel free to Subscribe to JEWJAZZ NEWSLETTER on my Contact
Page...
